"Berkarar" new ferry from Turkmenistan entered Olya port which is located in the southern Astrakhan region, the administration of Astrakhan region of the Russian Federation says.

The vessel transported construction materials for the Astrakhan school. This school is designed to become the national culture center for the Turkmen diaspora living in this region, the statement said.

"Berkarar" RO-PAX ferry transports passengers, as well as trucks and other vehicles.

The vessel was built at the ULJANIK shipyard (Pula, Croatia) upon the order of the State Service of Maritime and River Transport of Turkmenistan and will make regular passenger and cargo trips to the ports of Baku (Azerbaijan), Anzali and Amirabad (Iran).

Using these routes will significantly save the time spent on transportation of goods by vehicles from Europe to Central Asia, the Middle and Far East and will significantly increase the trade turnover volume.

The Turkish Gap Insaat will build a modern seaport in the city of Turkmenbashi on the Caspian seashore by 2017. The seaport will also include ship repair and shipbuilding yard.
