The 11th meeting of the Turkmenistan-Iran intergovernmental commission for consular, border and customs issues, held in Ashgabat, mulled the implementation of earlier reached agreements, the Turkmen government said Feb. 20.

Iranian side was represented at the meeting by the deputy foreign minister for consular and parliamentary affairs, Hasan Gashgavi.

The sides also discussed the development of cooperation in the improvement of legal aspects of consular issues, the cooperation in border control, the establishment of the effective control of the checkpoints.

Aside from that, the parties discussed the operation of the Kazakhstan-Turkmenistan railway, which has been recently commissioned.

Throughout the years of long-term cooperation, Turkmenistan and Iran have realized a number of large-scale joint projects.

Iran also imports electricity from Turkmenistan.

The two states have built a border dam, called Dostluk (Friendship), and realized the 'North-South' railway project, on the basis of a tripartite agreement signed in 2007 with participation of Turkmenistan, Iran and Kazakhstan.
