Turkmenistan is considering China as an important strategic partner, President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov said at a meeting with the Deputy Chairman of the Chinese National Development and Reform Commission and the Head of the China Energy Association Nuer Baikeli, the government of Turkmenistan said March 20.

The guest conveyed the greetings from Chinese President Xi Jinping and Premier Li Keqiang.

The sides exchanged views on a number of key areas of fruitful cooperation built on a long term basis.

"Baikeli emphasized that China attaches importance to the development of the traditionally friendly relations with Turkmenistan, which have recently gained new dynamics and content," the statement said.

The regularity and efficiency of the interstate dialogue create favorable opportunities to expand the partnership in trade, fuel-energy, transport-communication spheres.

President Berdimuhamedov's state visit to China in May 2014 gave an impetus to the dialogue. The new joint projects in the oil and gas sector appeared following the visit.

Chinese CNPC has bought fossil fuels in Central Asia since 2009, after the launch of the first two branches of the pipeline (A and B) of Turkmenistan through Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan. A third branch (C) was recently commissioned there, which also passes this route.

Currently, work on construction of additional fourth branch (D), on the new transit through Uzbekistan, Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan is underway.

The China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC) received the license of the operator and the contractor for the exploration and extraction of raw materials in the Bagtyyarlyk contract area in Lebap region of Turkmenistan seven years ago.
