Ashgabat, Turkmenistan, July 29

By Huseyn Hasanov- Trend:

The earthquake monitoring system will be modernized in Ashgabat, "Neutral Turkmenistan" newspaper reported.

The implementation of this project is envisaged in a separate paragraph of the joint statement on new partnership between Turkmenistan and Japan, according to the newspaper.

The document was signed by Turkmenistan's President Gurbanguly Berdimuhammadov and Japan's Prime Minister Shinzo Abe.

Recently, Turkmenistan has hosted a meeting with the delegation of Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), the sites for installing the equipment were reviewed, the tasks of the joint coordinating committee were determined and the action plan for the future was agreed upon, said the report.

The joint work carried out by the sides is aimed at developing the seismological research and, consequently, to further enhance the population's safety in Turkmenistan, according to the newspaper.

JICA is expected to hand over the modern seismological equipment, digital seismic stations, and the data processing and interpretation software to Turkmenistan.

It is planned to install three digital seismic stations and 10 sets of equipment (including installation on high-rise buildings) around Ashgabat.

Turkmen specialists will pass training and study the modern seismic data processing technologies in Japan, said the newspaper.

Turkmenistan sits on a seismically dangerous zone. On October 6, 1948, Ashgabat was hit by a catastrophic earthquake, the strength of which reached 10 points, leading to numerous casualties.
