Turkmenistan's President Gurbanguly Berdimuhammadov has approved the draft document on increasing the customs duties on some exported and imported food products.

This issue was discussed during the last government meeting. The head of state noted that this decision has been made to further stimulate the national producers, protect their interests and increase the competitiveness of the products.

The corresponding decree will enter into force from Oct.1, 2015.

The list of such food products includes sausages, fruits and vegetables, fruit juices and soft drinks.

In accordance with the document, the Ministry of Economy and Development, Finance Ministry and the State Customs Service have been instructed to work out proposals on amendments to Turkmenistan's law jointly with Justice Ministry and submit these proposals to the Cabinet of Ministers.

Turkmenistan has started to implement new state programs aimed at ensuring wide production of import-substituting products and increasing their export volume.

Berdimuhammadov emphasized the importance of taking practical steps to ensure progressive expansion of the geography of sales markets for domestic producers.
