Turkmenistan, Switzerland developing trade, economic co-op

The foreign ministry of Turkmenistan hosted a meeting with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Swiss Confederation Pascal Aebischer, said the message of the Turkmen government.

"Having noted the progress made in the political, economic and trade fields, the two sides exchanged views on a wide range of interstate cooperation," the message said.

They also discussed issues of the next session of political consultations between the foreign ministries of the two countries in Bern.

In addition, the sides discussed issues of further strengthening of political dialogue by intensifying ties between the ministries and state agencies of Turkmenistan and the Swiss Confederation, as well as expanding the bilateral legal framework.

During the talks, the sides also discussed regional and international issues, consolidation of efforts in the fight against common threats and challenges of modern time.

There are more than 30 companies with Swiss capital in Turkmenistan.

The sides call the fuel and energy complex, transport and communications, high-tech industrial sectors, investments, tourism and others as the perspective areas.

Turkmenistan is interested in cooperation with Switzerland in the mechanical engineering, chemical, processing and food industries, pharmaceutical and biochemical production.

President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhammadov's visit to Switzerland in October 2012 gave an impetus to the development of relations between the two countries. A package of documents was signed following the visit.
