Turkmenistan has harvested nearly 700,000 tons of raw cotton out of the planned 1.05 million tons, said the message released by the ministry of agriculture of Turkmenistan.

Some 545,000 hectares of irrigated land have been allotted for cotton in Turkmenistan, where 95 percent is allotted to upland varieties, while 5 percent is allotted to Eloten-14 fine-fiber grade of cotton.

Harvesting of cotton at the same time began Aug. 29 in three regions of Turkmenistan (Akhal, Lebap and Mary). Later, Sept. 6, cotton harvesting began in the Dashoguz region of the country.

Cotton is a weighty part Turkmenistan's export and is in demand as raw material for tens of modern enterprises dynamically developing in the country's textile industry.

Ashgabat annually hosts an international trade fair of cotton products of Turkmenistan.
