Iran attaches great importance to the development of multifaceted relations with neighboring Turkmenistan, Iranian Ambassador Seyed Mohammad Musa Hashemi Golpaegani, who is completing his diplomatic mission in the country, said.

He made the remarks at a meeting with Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhammadov, the message of the Turkmen embassy said Jan.7.

Reaffirming Turkmenistan's constant commitment to relations of friendship and fruitful cooperation with Iran, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhammadov noted the high level of bilateral relations, developing both in bilateral and multilateral formats within the framework of regional and international organizations, the embassy said.

The sides also exchanged views on key aspects of cooperation between the two countries.

In addition to the trade and economic sphere and the oil and gas industry, the transport sector was named one of the most topical areas of partnership.

The commissioning of Kazakhstan-Turkmenistan-Iran transnational steel main line, destined to become an important link of the North-South international transport corridor was brought up as an example.

During the first nine months of 2015, the volume of trade turnover between Turkmenistan and Iran exceeded $2.62 billion, which is 2.2 percent higher than the same period last year.

During the visit of the president of Iran to Turkmenistan in March 2015, an agreement was reached to increase the volume of bilateral trade turnover to $60 billion during the next decade.
