Turkmenistan reveals plans on gas production at largest field

Ashgabat, Turkmenistan, Jan. 26

By Huseyn Hasanov - Trend:

The three stages of development of Turkmenistan's largest field Galkynysh envisages the extraction of up to 95 billion cubic meters of gas per year, said the Turkmen Oil and Gas Ministry in a message Jan. 26.

The Galkynysh field provides great potential for increasing the volumes of production, processing and transportation of fossil fuels. This is due to the huge gas reserves at the field, which according to the latest estimates stand at 27.4 trillion cubic meters.

International experts say the huge gas resources at the Galkynysh are sufficient to ensure a long-term supply of fuel both through all the existing export routes and via the pipelines that are planned to be laid under the state strategy on diversification of routes for Turkmen gas supply to global markets.

Currently, Turkmenistan exports its natural gas to China, Iran, and Russia.

There are also discussions on gas supply to Europe through the Caspian Sea, Azerbaijan and Turkey.
