Turkmenistan and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) have discussed the issues of strengthening bilateral and multilateral relations in various areas of mutual cooperation, the message of the Turkmen government said Feb. 12.

Discussions were held during the working visit of deputy prime minister, minister of foreign affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredow to Vienna, where he held a number of meetings with heads of international organizations, including the IAEA Director General Yukiya Amano.

Turkmenistan joined the IAEA in September 2015.

The IAEA, headquartered in Vienna, was created in 1957 as an independent intergovernmental organization in the UN system. The goal of the IAEA is to develop cooperation in the sphere of peaceful use of nuclear energy.
