Ashgabat, Turkmenistan, Apr. 1

By Huseyn Hasanov- Trend:

Opportunities of seismic network development in Ashgabat are being considered within the framework of cooperation with Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and in order to monitor earthquakes, the Turkmen government said in a message.

It is planned to install three digital seismic stations and 10 sets of equipment (including installation on high-rise buildings) around Ashgabat, according to the message.

Turkmen specialists will pass training and study the modern seismic data processing technologies in Japan, according to the intergovernmental agreements.

Earlier it was reported that JICA was expected to hand over the modern seismological equipment, digital seismic stations, and the data processing and interpretation software to Turkmenistan.

Turkmenistan sits on a seismically dangerous zone. On October 6, 1948, Ashgabat was hit by a catastrophic earthquake, the strength of which reached 10 points, leading to numerous casualties.
