Turkmenistan produced 12.7 million tons of oil in 2015, which is by 5 percent more than in 2014, says BP Statistical Review of World Energy 2016.

Meanwhile, the country's share in global oil output was 0.3 percent in 2015. Oil consumption in Turkmenistan over this period amounted to 6.4 million tons that is by 1.6 percent more than in 2014.

Turkmennebit (Turkmenoil) state concern is the main oil producer in the country.

Currently, the state concern operates about three dozen fields, including more than 600 oil fields, as well as oil and gas deposits, which are at different stages of development.

Such foreign companies as Burren Energy PLC (a branch of ENI), Mitro International Limited, Dragon Oil PLC and Petronas produce oil in Turkmenistan within PSA contracts.
