The relations between Russia and Turkmenistan are based on the principle of strategic partnership, Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said in an interview with "Foreign Policy and Diplomacy of Turkmenistan" magazine.

He noted that over 100 agreements have been signed between Russia and Turkmenistan in all spheres of cooperation. The Treaty of Friendship and Cooperation dated April 23, 2002 is the basic document.

“Market conditions and in general, the international situation makes it necessary to adjust not only our current work, but also its legal basis,” said Lavrov.

Russian companies fruitfully operate on Turkmen market, especially, in supply of vehicles and equipment, telecommunications, oil and gas field. Around 190 companies with Russian share operate in Turkmenistan. Russia-Turkmenistan intergovernmental commission on economic cooperation plays an important role in increasing the joint efforts in this sphere.

“The high-level group for supporting trade and investments, which was recently created within the commission, is a mechanism of control over the fulfillment of the decisions and encouraging the economic relations between Russia and Turkmenistan, as well as the regions of our countries,” said Lavrov.
