A meeting with Deyan Keserovich, regional coordinator for Central Asia of the International Organization for Migration (IOM), was held in Ashgabat, the Turkmen State Migration Service said in a message.

According to the message, the sides discussed the key aspects of rendering safe, reliable and cost-effective services for people in need of international migration.

By joining a number of fundamental conventions and protocols on human rights, as well as being an IOM member, Turkmenistan positions itself as a strategic member of the global international processes, the message said.

According to the message, there is a new, effective mechanism for cooperation between Turkmenistan and the IOM in the field of humanism, aimed at protecting the rights and legitimate interests of migrants and refugees in need of assistance.

The IOM mission has been operating in Central Asia since 1998, while in Turkmenistan - since 2005.

A number of joint projects were implemented in the region during that period.
