Governor of Russia’s Astrakhan region Alexander Zhilkin expressed interest in launching direct air traffic between Ashgabat and Astrakhan during his meeting with Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, the Neutral Turkmenistan newspaper reported.

The sides exchanged views on topical issues of cooperation in the trade and economic, transportation and communication spheres.

Turkmenistan’s projects on creating transnational transport-transit corridors in the directions of Iran, Afghanistan and India open prospects of expanding ties, said Zhilkin.

The sides also expressed interest in opening a wholesale and logistics center for promotion of Turkmen goods on the Russian market was expressed during the meeting.

The governor noted that all this will intensify the trade and economic relations of the two countries’ business circles, the development of tourist services, taking into account the Avaza national tourist zone, being formed on the coast of the Caspian Sea.

Turkmen president also noted that the development of direct effective contacts with regions and leading industrial, educational and cultural centers of Russia is one of the key aspects of the intergovernmental dialogue. About 190 companies with Russian capital operate in Turkmenistan.
