The second meeting of the joint intergovernmental Turkmen-Qatari Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation was held in Doha, said the Foreign Ministry of Turkmenistan.

The meeting was attended by heads and representatives of state structures of the two countries.

At the meeting it was noted that today "a solid foundation for all-round boost of mutually beneficial cooperation with great potential" has been created.

The sides discussed issues of expansion of cooperation in such areas as fuel and energy complex, financial and banking, trade, industry and transport.

According to the message, the Turkmen government delegation was also received the Emir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani.

Diplomatic relations between the two countries were established in 1996.

In April this year, Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov invited the representatives of the Qatari business community to participate in the construction of the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI).

According to him, a new energy highway is designed to ensure long-term supply of natural gas in the major countries of South-East Asia, contribute to solving the economic problems of the region, important social and humanitarian issues.
