S. Korea, Turkmenistan ready to expand co-op in energy sector

South Korea is ready to expand cooperation with Turkmenistan in the fuel and energy sector, reads the message of Acting President of South Korea Hwang Kyo-ahn to President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

The South Korean acting president expressed hope for the continuation of mutually advantageous partnership in such spheres as the development of gas fields, creation of oil and chemical, as well as gas infrastructure.

He also expressed hope that the South Korean and Turkmen companies will become reliable and trustworthy partners in the implementation of projects to modernize and diversify the Turkmen industry.

Hwang Kyo-ahn in his letter expressed confidence that friendship and cooperation between South Korea and Turkmenistan will be further intensified.

The letter also said that the construction of a chemical complex for the production of polyethylene and polypropylene in the settlement of Kiyanly (Balkan region, Turkmenistan) is being carried out ahead of schedule, and this is a positive example of successful economic cooperation.

The complex, the construction of which started in the Kiyanly settlement in 2013, is designed to process five billion cubic meters of natural gas for the production of 386,000 tons of polyethylene and 81,000 tons of polypropylene per year.

The project is implemented by Japan’s Toyo Engineering Corporation, South Korea’s LG and Hyundai companies. The total cost of the project is over $3.4 billion.

This project’s implementation will provide high-quality products not only for country’s domestic demand but also the foreign market.
