Uzbekistan’s President Shavkat Mirziyoyev will pay a working visit to Turkmenistan on May 20, the Turkmen government said in a message.

Turkmenistan’s President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov will have negotiations with his Uzbek counterpart in Avaza (Balkan Province).

Projects are being implemented in this region in order to develop rich natural pantries, their recreational opportunities. Meanwhile, a big sea port is being built in Avaza.

Bilateral documents are planned to be signed after the meetings. Information on preparations for the Turkmen-Uzbek high level talks was given at a governmental meeting.

President Berdimuhamedov noted that regular high-level meetings testify the mutual aspiration and interest of both countries in building up effective cooperation developed on traditions of friendship and good-neighborliness, on an equal, constructive and long-term basis.

Energy sphere is one of the strategic areas of the two countries’ partnership. Turkmenistan has been delivering natural gas to China through Uzbekistan since 2009.

The two countries are discussing at this stage the project on creation of the Uzbekistan-Turkmenistan-Iran-Oman transport route. This will allow increasing significantly the international freight transit and providing with a new communication corridor to world markets.

Presidents of Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan signed an agreement on strategic cooperation in Ashgabat in March 2017.
