George Edgar has been appointed as new British Ambassador to Uzbekistan.

According to the British Embassy in Tashkent, Edgar will assume his office in August. In this post he will succeed Rupert Joy, who was appointed to this post in 2009.

Edgar joined the British Foreign Office in 1981. He served at the British Embassy in Russia and later in the High Commission in Lagos (Nigeria). Edgar also served as ambassador to Phnom Penh (Cambodia) and Skopje (Macedonia), as well as Consul General in St. Petersburg (Russia).
