Uzbek Senate to hold plenary meeting in early December

The Senate of the Oliy Majlis (upper house of the Uzbek parliament) will hold the tenth plenary session on Dec. 5-6 in accordance with the decision of the Kengash (Presidium) of the Senate made on Monday.

The Senate of the Oliy Majlis (upper house of the Uzbek parliament) will hold the tenth plenary session on Dec. 5-6 in accordance with the decision of the Kengash (Presidium) of the Senate made on Monday.

A draft of the state budget for 2013, as well as job creation and employment programmes are planned to be submitted to the plenary session of the Senate for discussion.

The agenda of the plenary session includes several laws, including 'On licensing procedures in the field of entrepreneurship', 'On private banking and financial institutions and guarantees of their activity', 'On Operational Investigative Activities', 'On Amendments to the laws of the Republic of Uzbekistan', 'On elections to the Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan' and 'On elections to the regional, district and city councils of people's deputies' in connection with further ensuring the freedom of choice and development of electoral law.

Moreover, the senators will consider other issues concerned with the competence of the upper house of the parliament.

The bicameral parliament has been operating in Uzbekistan since 2005. Around 150 MPs are elected from four political parties and the Uzbek Ecological Movement for a period of five years at the Legislative Chamber permanently.

Around 100 senators are represented in the upper house from all regions of the country.
