Uzbek state communications operator plans to raise $ 100 million from loans in 2013

Uzbektelecom JSC, the national communication operator of Uzbekistan is planning to take a $100 million loan from the China Development Bank (CDB) in the first half of 2013 for a project to upgrade and expand its network, first deputy general director of Uzbektelecom Kakhramon Yuldashev told journalists on Thursday.

Uzbektelecom JSC, the national communication operator of Uzbekistan is planning to take a $100 million loan from the China Development Bank (CDB) in the first half of 2013 for a project to upgrade and expand its network, first deputy general director of Uzbektelecom Kakhramon Yuldashev told journalists on Thursday.

"A memorandum was signed with the Chinese bank and a schedule was developed for project preparation. Contracts for implementation and the start of funding will be signed," Yuldashev said.

CDB funds will be attracted to the three projects worth $107.6 million, including a project to expand and backup Uzbektelecom's baseline network, the project for development of mobile network and CDMA-450 and the project to introduce fiber-optic FTTx technology.

Yuldashev said these projects will allow for an increase in network capacity of the communications operator by 10 times to 100 gigabits per second in international directions and raise the coverage of CDMA-450 up to 90 percent, the number of broadband users by six times to 600,000 subscribers through the regional centers.

Uzbektelecom JSC provides local, long distance, international voice telephony and data transmission network services amongst others.
