Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan to discuss cooperation

On Monday, representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan's ambassador to Tashkent, Boribay Zheksembin discussed practical issues surrounding the implementation of agreements reached during the official visit of the President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov to Astana in September of last year, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan said.

On Monday, representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan's ambassador to Tashkent, Boribay Zheksembin discussed practical issues surrounding the implementation of agreements reached during the official visit of the President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov to Astana in September of last year, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan said.

As previously reported, during the visit of President Islam Karimov to Kazakhstan, the two leaders agreed to continue consistent adherence to the Economic Cooperation Strategy for 2007-2016, and contribute to the further development of bilateral trade and economic cooperation.

The Presidents reaffirmed their intentions to continue the furthered development of trade relations, present high value exports to one another, maintain mutual participation in the business community in exhibitions and fairs and other similar events.

In addition, an agreement was reached on the further development of joint intergovernmental commission on bilateral cooperation.

The Presidents noted the need for a comprehensive strengthening of Uzbek-Kazakh cooperation in the military and law enforcement sectors, the improvement of cooperation in the field of science, culture, education, tourism and sports.

While discussing issues of Central Asian water and energy, the heads of states agreed to resolve all relevant matters, including the construction of new hydro plants on transboundary rivers in accordance with the generally recognized rules of international law and in the interest of all states of the region.

The presidents also agreed to take concerted action for the early completion of the multilateral process on registration of Uzbekistan's accession to the Treaty on the free trade zone.
