Uzbek Foreign Minister Abdulaziz Kamilov and the U.S. Deputy Secretary of State William Burns have discussed aspects of bilateral cooperation in Tashkent, Uzbek Foreign Ministry said on May 7.
During the talks, the parties discussed the status and prospects for the Uzbek-U.S. relations. They also exchanged views on certain international and regional issues.
The U.S. ambassador to Uzbekistan, George Krol also attended the meeting.
During the visit to Tashkent, Burns planned to meet with Uzbek government representatives and to discuss the issues of mutual interest, namely, the situation in Afghanistan, the regional policy, as well as the economic and humanitarian aspects of cooperation.
The U.S. Deputy Secretary of State also plans to meet with representatives of media and civil society of Uzbekistan.
Burns visited Uzbekistan in July, 2009 and June, 2012 as the U.S. Undersecretary of State for Political Affairs.
