Uzbek-Spanish business forum to be held in Madrid

Embassy of Uzbekistan in Madrid held a meeting with the Deputy Director of the Association of Entrepreneurs Jose Garcia-Morales in order to expand and to strengthen cooperation with Spain in the trade, economic and investment spheres, the Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCI) of Uzbekistan told Trend Aug. 18.

During the meeting the deputy head of the Association of Entrepreneurs of Spain suggested the possibility to organize a presentation of economic and investment potential of Uzbekistan in Madrid in October this year together with the country's Chamber of Commerce, as well as organization of a business forum with the participation of representatives of business circles of the two countries.

He also confirmed the interest of the Spanish side in the development of large-scale cooperation with Uzbekistan, which was mentioned in the Uzbek-Spanish business forum held in April 2014 in Tashkent.

As previously reported, the business forum was held within the framework of the visit of the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation of Spain, Jose Manuel Garcia-Margalit to Uzbekistan. The forum was attended by the business communities of both countries, including representatives of several major Spanish companies.

Business Forum participants discussed the prospects of cooperation in the oil and gas industry, energetic, chemical, food industries. On the results of the business forum the documents on the intention to strengthen cooperation in such areas as trade, investment, pharmaceuticals, railway construction, and engineering were signed.

Currently between Uzbekistan and Spain there is an intergovernmental agreement on encouragement and mutual protection of investments, avoidance of double taxation, preferential treatment in trade and economic relations is established.

There are 12 enterprises with the participation of the Spanish capital in Uzbekistan, including such as "Makham-Chirchiq", "Ammofos-Makham", "Hispantex", "Pantentes Talgo Tashkent", and "Balkan Eksport Import Asia".

Agencies of the three Spanish companies - "Marti & Deba, SL", "Intec Energiya SA" and "Laintex Veterani S.A." have been accredited at the Ministry of Foreign Economic Relations, Investments and Trade of Uzbekistan.
