Uzbekistan supports the agreement for a peaceful solution of the Ukrainian issue reached in Minsk, said the President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov at the meeting of the Council of Heads of SCO member states in Dushanbe Sept.12.

The meeting was broadcasted live on Russia-24 Russian TV channel.

Karimov believes that Uzbekistan considers it important to hold a direct dialogue between Moscow and Kiev in order to resolve the situation in the east of Ukraine taking into account Russia's interests in the region.

"I am convinced that the proposal the Uzbek side made March 4 which said that the most appropriate and effective solution for the problem is to carry forward the negotiations between Ukraine and Russia in order to end the conflict in Ukraine and to achieve peace in this country remains relevant," the president of Uzbekistan said.

It was previously reported that Islam Karimov arrived in the Tajik capital to participate in the 14th session of the Council of Heads of Member States of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization.

The meeting was attended by the heads of SCO member states - Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, China, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan, the delegations of observer states under the SCO and dialogue partners of the SCO. Iran, India, Pakistan and Mongolia have an observer status, and Belarus and Sri Lanka are the dialogue partners.
