Uzbekistan's Foreign Minister Abdulaziz Kamilov and Administrator of the UN Development Program Helen Clark discussed the status and the priority areas of cooperation between Uzbekistan and UN, Uzbek Foreign Ministry said.

The sides paid special attention to the bilateral and multilateral cooperation issues in the region of the Aral Sea basin to mitigate the consequences of the environmental catastrophe.

Helen Clark is currently on a visit to Uzbekistan. She is expected to visit some regions of the country, including the Aral Sea region suffering from ecological crisis due to the drying up of the Aral Sea.

Clark plans to get acquainted with the UNDP projects being implemented in the country.

Uzbekistan became the UN member in 1992.

Currently, the following programs, funds and agencies of the UN operate in Uzbekistan: UNDP, United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), UNICEF, World Health Organization, UNESCO, United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime and Joint United Nations Program on HIV / AIDS (UNAIDS).
