Uzbekistan marks the 22nd anniversary of adoption of the Constitution Dec.8.

The basic law of the country was passed unanimously Dec. 8, 1992 at the 11th session of the Supreme Council of the Republic. On the same day, President Islam Karimov signed laws "On the adoption of the Constitution of the Republic of Uzbekistan", "On the order of entry into force of the Constitution of the Republic of Uzbekistan."

All these years, the Basic Law has served as a solid foundation for the construction of the country's democratic state, civil society, economy, based on the market relations, creating a prosperous life for the people, finding a decent place on the world stage.

Uzbekistan is the sovereign democratic republic, the state expresses the will of the people and serves its interests, according to articles of the Basic Law. The government agencies and officials are accountable to the society and citizens. The most important issues of public and state life of the people are brought for discussion of the people and put to universal suffrage.

"The day of the Constitution of Uzbekistan, December 8, 1992, will remain in our history as a significant date, as a holiday, which laid foundation of building an independent democratic state with a socially oriented market economy and establishing civil society where the main objective is to ensure the interests, rights and freedoms of the person, the rule of law, equality of all the citizens of the country before the law," said the President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov, speaking at the ceremonial meeting in honor of the 22nd anniversary of the adoption of the Constitution.

December 8 is a festive holiday in Uzbekistan, according to the presidential decree "On the announcement of the date of adoption of the Constitution of the Republic of Uzbekistan as a national holiday."
