Voter turnout shows Uzbek parliamentary elections valid - CEC

As of 1:00 (UTC/GMT +5 hours), around 57.08 percent out of 20,789,572 citizens, included in the voters’ lists, voted in the election of members of the Legislative Chamber of Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan and local authorities, chairman of the Central Election Commission of Uzbekistan Mirzo-Ulugbek Abdusalomov said at a briefing Dec. 21.

As of 1:00 (UTC/GMT +5 hours), around 57.08 percent out of 20,789,572 citizens, included in the voters' lists, voted in the election of members of the Legislative Chamber of Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan and local authorities, chairman of the Central Election Commission of Uzbekistan Mirzo-Ulugbek Abdusalomov said at a briefing Dec. 21.

"The election is considered valid if at least 33 percent of people voted in accordance with Article 44, the law on "Election to the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan"," he said. "Thus, the election can be considered valid."

The polling stations opened at 6.00 (UTC/GMT +5 hours).

At present, the voting is underway at the polling stations.
