Uzbek Central Election Commission (CEC) approved the action plan for the preparations and holding re-vote on Jan.4, 2015, Deputy Head of CEC Svetlana Artykova said at a briefing on Dec.25.

The re-vote for the elections to the Legislative Chamber of Oliy Majlis (lower house of Uzbek parliament) will be held in 22 constituencies where none of the candidates has gathered the required number of votes (33.3 percent) in the elections held on Dec.21.

"The re-vote will be held in one constituency in the Republic of Karakalpakstan, Andijan, Bukhara, Jizzakh, Navoi, Samarkand, Syrdarya, Khorezm, Kashkadarya provinces and in Tashkent city each, in two constituencies in Namangan and Tashkent provinces each, three constituencies in Ferghana province, and in five constituencies in Surkhandarya province," said Artykova.

Under the country's law, the re-vote will be held in each of 22 constituencies for two candidates who gathered the largest number of votes in the elections held on Dec.21.

The re-vote will be held for 15 candidates for MPs from the Democratic Party Milly Tiklanish, 11 candidates - People's Democratic Party, nine candidates from the Liberal Democratic Party and the Social Democratic Party Adolat (Justice) each.

The candidate who will gather the largest number of votes compared to the other candidate as a result of the re-vote, will be elected.

Four candidates for MP were competing in 127 constituencies each and three candidates in eight constituencies each during the elections held on Dec.21.

Around 18,490,245 people or 88.94 percent of 20,789,572 citizens included in the list of votes, took part in the elections.

The MPs of the Legislative Chamber of Uzbek parliament were elected in 113 constituencies. Some 47 of the elected MPs are from the Liberal Democratic Party, 28 MPs - Milly Tiklanish, 21 - People's Democratic Party, 17 - Adolat.

Moreover, 15 MPs were elected during the conference of the Ecological Movement of Uzbekistan on Dec.21.

Some 38 of the elected MPs were from the previous convocation. Some 31 of the elected MPs are the representatives of the sphere of economy, 26 - education sphere, 33- jurists, 21- representatives of the production sphere, seven - health care system, three MPs - public organizations and seven MPs from other spheres.

Uzbekistan's bicameral parliament was created in 2005. Its legislative chamber permanently employs 150 MPs from four political parties and the Uzbek Ecological Movement. They were elected in Dec. 2009 for a five-year period.

The parliament's upper house, known as the Senate, employs 100 MPs elected in equal numbers, i.e. six MPs from the Karakalpakstan Republic, regions and the city of Tashkent.

Aside from that, the Uzbek president appoints 16 members of the Senate from among the most distinguished citizens.
