The presidential election, which kicked off today in Uzbekistan at 06:00 (UTC/GMT +5 hours), has ended at 20:00.

As of 17:00, according to the last announcement of results by Uzbekistan's Central Election Commission, some 85.2 percent of the voters, or 17.728 million people, cast their votes, RIA Novosti reported Mar. 29.

The final data on the voter turnout will be issued at 22:00. The first preliminary results of the election will be announced on Mar. 30.

The candidates from four Uzbek political parties were running for the presidency.

The Movement of Entrepreneurs and Businessmen - Liberal Democratic Party of Uzbekistan nominated the current president, Islam Karimov as a presidential candidate.

The People's Democratic Party of Uzbekistan proposed the chairman of the Central Council, Hatamzhon Ketmonov to the president's post, and the Democratic Party Milly Tiklanish nominated a member of the party's faction in the parliament, Akmal Saidov.

The Social Democratic Party Adolat nominated the chairman of the party's executive committee, Narimon Umarov.
