Secretaries of security councils of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) member states have discussed the international information security issues.

They pointed out the importance of preventing the use of Internet and other information and communication technologies for promoting the ideology of terrorism, separatism and extremism, said the message released following the 11th meeting of secretaries of security councils of SCO member states held in Tashkent.

The meeting participants called for the speedy finalization and adoption of a comprehensive UN convention against international terrorism and spoke for increasing the efforts in fighting drug trafficking.

They noted that one of the most important factors in strengthening security and stability in the region is the speedy settlement of the situation in Afghanistan by peaceful means.

The secretaries of security councils welcomed the practical implementation of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action to resolve Iran's nuclear problem.

The meeting participants noted that the strict adherence to the Central Asian Nuclear-Weapon-Free Zone Treaty will make a significant contribution to the strengthening of regional stability and nuclear non-proliferation regime.

They expressed confidence that more active involvement of observer states and dialogue partners in the SCO activities in overcoming the challenges and threats to regional security will make it possible to increase the effectiveness of the measures taken in this sphere.

The SCO members are China, Kazakhstan, Russia, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. Afghanistan, Iran, Mongolia and Belarus are the SCO observer-countries, while Turkey, Sri Lanka, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Cambodia and Nepal are dialogue partners.
