John MacGregor has been appointed the OSCE project co-ordinator in Uzbekistan, said the OSCE Tashkent office in a message June 28.

Prior to this, he served as Deputy Head of the OSCE Centre in Bishkek from 2013, and spent two years as acting Deputy Head of the OSCE Office in Baku.

Uzbekistan joined the OSCE in 1992.

In June 2006, on the Uzbek side’s initiative the OSCE Permanent Council made a decision on the establishment of the office of OSCE Project Co-ordinator in Uzbekistan.

Uzbek government and the OSCE signed a memorandum on the formation of the post of the OSCE Project Co-ordinator in Uzbekistan.

Currently, a number of OSCE projects are being implemented in Uzbekistan. The country cooperates with the OSCE in such spheres as the strengthening of regional security and stability, the development of civil society institutions, expansion of international economic and humanitarian partnership and environment.
