Citizens of Uzbekistan participated in the voting at the presidential election in a free and open manner, Secretary General of the Association of World Election Bodies (A-WEB) Kim Yong-Hi said at a briefing in Uzbekistan Dec. 5.

The A-WEB secretary general was heading the observation mission for the presidential election in Uzbekistan.

He said that the voting took place within the framework of the Uzbek national legislation, and the citizens freely expressed their will at all polling stations visited by the mission members.

Kim Yong-Hi also welcomed the absence of facts when one person casts votes instead of all of his or her family members.

The A-WEB was formed as an international organization in October 2013 with headquarters in Incheon city (South Korea). The A-WEB currently brings together 106 electoral bodies from 102 countries.

The presidential election was held in Uzbekistan December 4.

Candidates from four political parties of Uzbekistan participated in the presidential election - Uzbekistan Liberal Democratic Party (UzLiDeP), People's Democratic Party (PDPU), Milly Tiklanish (National Revival) Party, and Adolat (Justice) Social Democratic Party.

Among the presidential candidates were the country’s Acting President Shavkat Mirziyoyev from UzLiDeP, Sarvar Otamuratov from Milly Tiklanish Party, Nariman Umarov from Adolat Party, and Hotamzhon Ketmonov from PDPU.

Shavkat Mirziyoyev was elected as Uzbekistan’s president for the next five years. As many as 15.907 million voters or 88.61 percent of all voters who participated in the voting, cast their ballots for Mirziyoyev.

During the presidential election in Uzbekistan on Dec. 4, 17.94 million people, or 87.83 percent of all voters cast their votes.
