Uzbekistan names new PM

The Uzbek Deputy Prime Minister Abdulla Aripov was appointed prime minister during a joint session of the Uzbek Parliament’s Senate and Legislative Chamber Dec. 14.

According to the Uzbek Constitution, the prime ministerial candidate is proposed to the president by the political party with the biggest number of seats in the Legislative Chamber.

The Liberal Democratic Party of Uzbekistan (UzLiDeP) nominated Aripov.

The candidacy of a prime minister nominee is considered approved if it garners more than half of the votes of the members of the Legislative Chamber and the Senate of the Uzbek Parliament.

Eighty-three out of 92 Senate members as well as 124 of 142 members of the Legislative Chamber voted in favour of Abdulla Aripov electing him the Uzbek prime minister.
