Uzbek FM, EU special rep mull co-op issues

Uzbek Foreign Minister Abdulaziz Kamilov received Peter Burian, EU special representative for Central Asia, the press service of the Uzbek Foreign Ministry reported.

The sides discussed topical issues of the bilateral agenda as the continuation of the dialogue held Dec. 9, 2016 within the framework of their participation in the session of the 23rd OSCE Ministerial Council, according to the press service.

The parties held substantive discussion on the further development of relations between Uzbekistan and the EU in political, trade-economic, cultural-humanitarian and other spheres, as well as the implementation of the EU Strategy for a New Partnership with Central Asia and the prospects for improving its effectiveness.

During the meeting the sides also exchanged views on international and regional issues.

The head of the EU Delegation to Uzbekistan, Ambassador Eduards Stiprais attended the conversation.

Uzbekistan and the EU signed the “Partnership and Cooperation Agreement” in 1996. Diplomatic representation of the EU in Uzbekistan was opened in 2012.
