Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev’s visit to Turkmenistan confirmed his commitment to the development of trust-based and mutually beneficial relations with all countries, primarily with neighboring ones, according to the Uzbekistan National News Agency (UzA).

Mirziyoyev arrived on a state visit to Turkmenistan on March 6.

During the meeting with Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, Mirziyoyev congratulated his counterpart with re-election as president and noted that lasting cooperation has been established between Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan.

The presidents noted the commonality of goals and approaches in the development of cooperation between the two countries in political, economic, cultural, humanitarian spheres, as well as in the issues of regional and international importance.

They also exchanged views on fighting terrorism, extremism, drug trafficking and organized crime and on strengthening of regional security.

During the talks, the two presidents agreed to activate cooperation in implementation of the five-party agreement, signed in Ashgabat in 2011, on creation of international transport and transit corridor from Central Asia to the Middle East countries.

After the talks, Mirziyoyev and Berdimuhamedov signed a joint statement and an agreement of strategic partnership between Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan. Also, a number of agreements were signed between the two countries’ ministries.
