Kuwait promises to release detained Iranians shortly

Kuwaiti officials have promised to release a number of Iranians detained in that country in the near future, Iranian Foreign Ministry official Hossein Amirabdollahian said, IRNA reported.

Referring to his recent meeting with Kuwaiti foreign minister, Amirabdollahian reiterated that he had declared that it was not acceptable for Iran to see a number of its citizens detained in Kuwait for a long time on baseless allegations.

He said the release of the two Kuwaiti nationals was an initiative to encourage Kuwaiti officials to behave the same way towards imprisoned Iranians in Kuwait.

Last week, two Kuwaitis detained by Iranian authorities last month for spying were released. An airplane dispatched to Iran on the orders of the Kuwaiti Emir took back the two detained Kuwaiti citizens.
