Iran plans to build new generation of Saeqeh fighter jet: Commander

A senior commander of the Islamic Republic of Iran Air Force (IRIAF) says the country plans to build a new generation of the indigenous Saeqeh (Thunderbolt) military fighter jets with enhanced radar systems and smart munitions, Press TV reported.

"The improvement of the systems of the Saeqeh fighter jets is constantly underway by Iranian experts," IRIAF Deputy Commander for Coordination Brigadier General Aziz Nasirzadeh told IRNA on Sunday.

He added that the IRIAF also plans to increase the range of missiles, upgrade air-to-air missiles, boost the range of radars, and update aircraft electronic systems in cooperation with Iran's Defense Ministry.

The military commander further stated that the IRIAF would hold different maneuvers during the current Iranian calendar year (started on March 20) to display its capabilities.

Nasirzadeh also reiterated that the Iranian Air Force is ready to respond to any threat.

In recent years, Iran has made great achievements in the defense sector and gained self-sufficiency in essential military hardware and defense systems.

The country has repeatedly made it clear that its military might is merely based on the state's defense doctrine of deterrence and that it poses no threat to other countries.
