Lebanon is currently getting 100 megawatts of electricity from Iran and that will grow to 200 megawatts.

Iran's Energy Minister, Majid Namjoo, said the power is transferred from the 1,300 megawatts of electricity exported to Iraq, the iribnews.ir website reports.

Iraq is serving as a point of transfer to deliver electricity to Syria and Lebanon.

Namjoo said Iranian companies are currently repairing the Syrian power stations other countries had refused to work on.

Iran's Energy Minister made the comments after his meeting with Syria's Minister of Electricity Imad Khamis. Khamis emphasized that his country will work to strengthen its relations with Iran.

For over a year, Syria has been gripped by a popular uprising that has claimed thousands of lives. Iran has been Damascus's major ally throughout the crisis even as the world community has condemned the Syrian government's actions.

Iran currently trades power with Turkey, Armenia, Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan, Pakistan, Afghanistan and Iraq. The Islamic Republic has made a concerted effort to increase its sales and trade of electricity.
