Iran says all objectives of achieved during "Velayat 91" drills

Iranian Navy wrapped up its six-day naval drills in the southern waters of the country on Wednesday with the spokesman for the drill Rear Admiral Amir Rastegari saying that the Iranian Navy achieved all the objectives of the military exercise, ISNA news agency reported.

"In the drills, the navy forces practised swift reactions to unexpected incidents, exercised prompt stretch of the commandoes and military units, carried out rapid transfer of the forces by the helicopters, launched missiles with high precision and destructive powers, and implemented full utilization of communication systems and integrated commandment," Rastegari said.

The main message of the drills was to establish lasting security for the commercial ships in the Persian Gulf, the Strait of Hormuz, the Sea of Oman and the north of Indian Ocean, said Rastegari.

On Friday, Iranian navy launched a six-day massive drill, dubbed Velayat 91 or Guardianship 91, stretching from the Strait of Hormuz through the Sea of Oman and the north of the Indian Ocean to the Gulf of Aden and the Bab-el-Mandeb Strait.

During the military exercise, Iran unveiled the new achievements, test-fired missiles and torpedoes, shot down hypothetical enemy unmanned aerial vehicles ( UAVs), adopted cyber defense techniques, tested the operational capabilities of its home-made hovercrafts, exercised mine-planting operations and tested the operational capabilities of its submarine units.

On the last day of the drills on Wednesday, Iranian Defense Minister Brigadier General Ahmad Vahidi unveiled latest combat chopper Toufan 2 ( Storm II).

Vahidi said the chopper belongs to a new generation of combat helicopters and enjoys modern and advanced technologies, including high-precision targeting capability, according to the report.

Toufan II employs Iran's latest indigenous achievements in electronics, optics, laser and armament capabilities, said the Iranian minister, adding that the production of the chopper is a symbol of creativity and self-sufficiency in the face of the enemies' sanctions.

On Tuesday, the Iranian Navy "successfully" test-fired Qader coast-to-sea and Noor surface-to-surface missiles.

With the range of 200 km and rapid response capabilities, Qader is also able of targeting all fixed and moving targets in the sea with high destructive power, semi-official Mehr news agency said, adding that among other features of this product are its flight maneuverability, automatic guiding and controlling systems.

Also, the upgraded version of the Noor missile, with the range of 170 km and with improvements in its electronic systems, with a more jam-resistant radar and better target acquisition algorithms, was put in test.

On the forth day of the maneuvers, Iranian Navy "successfully" test-fired the latest and modified version of the home-made surface-to-air Ra'd (Thunder) missile, which are installed on warships and could strike medium-range aerial targets, Press TV reported.

The Iranian Navy also "successfully" launched its indigenous short-range cruise missile dubbed Nasr ( Victory) which could destroy vessels of up to 3,000 tons and could be launched from both inland bases and offshore military vessels, Iranian defense minister was quoted as saying by Press TV.

Besides, Iran's Navy test-fired state-of-the-art torpedoes by hitting and destroying targets on Monday, and exercised shooting down hypothetical enemy aircrafts, specially the UAVs, semi- official Fars news agency reported.

"Today, enemy drones came under the heavy fire of the (Iranian) courageous naval forces in both the sea and on the coasts before they could infiltrate the positions of the friendly troops and finally they were hit and destroyed by Misaq shoulder-launched missiles," Rastegari was quoted as saying.

Rastegari also said that friendly reconnaissance and combat drones penetrated the positions of the enemy forces in separate missions and targeted their vessels after gathering intelligence in their reconnaissance missions, according to Fars.

Iran, on Sunday, adopted cyber defense techniques and conducted coastal defense against hypothetical enemy forces.

During the drills, aggressive forces launched a cyber attack against the computer network of defensive forces in order to infiltrate the network and hack information or spread viruses, Rastegari said, adding that the cyber defense forces "successfully " detected the threat and blocked it.

On Saturday, the Iranian Navy exercised mine-planting operations and tested the operational capabilities of its submarine units, Fars reported.

Rastegari said that Iran's light and kilo-class submarines traversed the territorial and international waters, conducted reconnaissance missions and traced hypothetical enemies " successfully," according to the report.

He added that Navy choppers and speed boats conducted mine planting operations to detect the voyage line of the hypothetical enemy's aggressive surface and sub-surface vessels and to block their aggression against Iran's territorial waters.

Tareq super-heavy submarine which were recently overhauled by Iranian experts was put back into operation during the exercises, he was quoted as saying.

The naval fleets also conducted coastal defense tactics to counter an invasion of hypothetical enemy vessels, said Rastegari.
