Iran will be launching 7 satellites to orbit this year, head of Iran's Space Agency Hamid Fazeli said, Mehr reported.

"Currently the construction and preparation of the satellites is underway, as we are working directly with local space universities," Fazeli said.

Fazeli also said that one of the satellites - "Nahid" satellite has been created by local scientists using new technology.

He said the "satellite pages" are attached to the satellite via a different way, that allows them to be opened as soon as the satellite reaches the destination height.

Fazeli noted that the 50-kg Nahid satellite will be launched by the Safir B1 satellite launcher.

Other satellites - Fajr, Atsat, Sharifsat, Tolu and Zafar are also planned to be launched into space at a later stage this year.

Iran has already sent three satellites into space. On February 3, the country successfully launched its third domestically manufactured satellite, named the Navid (Promise), into orbit. The Safir one satellite carrier rocket was used to launch the Navid research satellite.

Iran is one of the 24 founding members of the United Nations Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space, which was set up in 1959.
