Iran's Interior Ministry will announce the names of final candidates for the upcoming presidential election on Wednesday, Khabar Farsi website reported.

The Guardian Council will submit the list of approved candidates to the interior ministry today.

Candidates can officially begin their electoral campaigns as of May 24 for a period of 20 days, one day ahead of the presidential and city council elections.

The body says it has acted independently in the vetting process and has not been affected by any group or political party.

Before releasing the final list, the Interior Ministry will hold a meeting with the candidates to brief them on the regulations of electoral campaigns.

The interior ministry has announced that over 66,000 polling stations will be set up nationwide for the elections.

Also Iranians abroad will be able to cast their ballots in 285 polling stations.

Iran's presidential election will be held on June 14. The voters will select the successor of the current President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, who is not able to participate in the elections for the third term according to the country's constitutional laws.

The president of Iran is elected for a four-year term in a national election and the Guardian Council vets the candidates for qualifications.
