About 30 percent of people in Iran suffer from fatty liver disease, Head of Association of Gastroenterology and Hepatology of Iran, doctor Reza Melikzadeh said, IRNA reported.

He noted that in the next 30 years, according to the forecasts, the fatty liver disease will become a major reason for liver diseases in Iran.

"In order to prevent this, it is necessary to launch a special program," Melikzadeh believes.

He went on to say that about 65 percent of people living in cities and provinces of Iran suffer from extra weight and obesity.

"Women suffer more from extra weight that men," he said. "Women over 40 years of age have extra weight appearing on thighs, and bellies. And extra weight is one of the major reasons for fatty liver disease," he said.
