Based on the gathered information from the polling stations the election will go to the second round, deputy for media affairs of presidential candidate Mohsen Rezaee's campaign headquarters, Shahram Gilabadi said, Mehr reported.

"Everything is going smoothly and the turn out has been huge," Gilabadi said.

According to the Interior Minister Mostafa Mohammad Najjar vote counting will start immediately after polls close.

He also warned the media outlets and the candidates not to reveal the results prior to the official announcement, as it could provoke the people and confuse them.

"The results will be gradually announced via the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting," he said.

The 11th presidential elections have officially started today in Iran.

There are six candidates participating in the current presidential elections: Secretary of Expediency Council Mohsen Rezaei, Supreme National Security Council Secretary Saeed Jalili, former Foreign Minister Ali-Akbar Velayati, Tehran Mayor Mohammad-Baqer Qalibaf, President of the Strategic Research Center of the Expediency Council Hassan Rohani, and former Telecommunications Minister Mohammad Gharazi.

The primary results of the June 14 presidential election will be announced by the Iranian Interior Ministry, and would be then approved by the Guardian Council.
