Some state officials in Iran awarded with medal of honor

The administration of Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has awarded 12 ministers and executive officials with the country’s highest civilian medal of honor, which equals 100 gold coins in value, the Tabnak website reported.

The administration of Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has awarded 12 ministers and executive officials with the country's highest civilian medal of honor, which equals 100 gold coins in value, the Tabnak website reported.

This is while granting such awards should be proposed by the cabinet and approved by its cultural committee.

The Tabnak website is run by Mohsen Rezaei, one of the eight candidates of the presidential election.

Transport minister Ali Nikzad, education minister Hamidreza Hajibabaee, foreign minister Ali-Akbar Salehi, oil minister Rostam Qasemi, trade minister Mehdi Ghazanfari, and economy minister Shamseddin Hosseini have received the medals of honor.

Each gold coin in Iran is sold at around 12,000,000 rials (about $980 based on the official rate of 12,260 rials).

According to the law, the medals should be awarded to those who have made continuous and faithful efforts to serve the nation, especially the underprivileged strata and underdeveloped regions.
