President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad met Iran's National Football Team players on Wednesday and congratulated them on their reaching 2014 Brazil World Cup, IRNA reported.

The team beat South Korean I-0 on Tuesday in 2014 World Cup qualifer.

President Ahmadinejad presented each team played with $20,000 (500 million rial) and gave them special license to import expensive foreign cars for personal use.

President Ahmadinejad also honored the team's Head Coach Carlos Queiroz and the team's captain Javad Nekounam with Medals of Honor.

According to Iran's Minister of Youth and Sports, Mohammad Abbasi, the National Team wsa also given prize by the government cabinet.

The Iranian national team imposed its superiority in Tuesday's game with the solo scored goal of this game by the best player at the field, Reza Qouchanezhad, thus gaining the required qualification for attending the 2014 Brazil World Cup competitions as the top team of Group A.

The last time, Iran participated in the World Cup back in 1998. This was their second appearance in the World Cup.

Iran didn't progress to the knockout stage. The Iranian National Football Team played in Group F with Yugoslavia, America and Germany.

The country team's first match was played on 14 June 1998, against Yugoslavia, which Iran lost 1-0. Iran won their next game 2-1 against America with goals from Hamid Estili in the 40th minute and Mehdi Mahdavikia in the 84th minute.

This was Iran's first and only World Cup victory.[1] Iran's last match was against Germany, which Iran lost 2-0.
