At least 36 people, most of them Azerbaijani civil rights activists, have been arrested in city of Urmia, in West Azerbaijan Province, Association for Defence of Azerbaijani Political Prisoners in Iran (ADAPP) reported.

The activists, according to the report, were arrested by Iranian security forces, when the activists were on their way to hike mountain Sahand on the occasion of 26 June - International Day in Support of Victims of Torture.

So far, there has been no official information released about the detained people.

Oyan News, a portal involved in human rights issues reported that 6 of 36 detained people have been arrested and the remaining were released after several hours.

The arrested people were professor in nuclear physics at Urmia University Ali Dousti Somayyeh, blogger Vahid Faezpour, and human rights activists Gholam Gholizadeh, Meisam Azadi, Vahid Nasibi and Motraza Zarrin.
