Iranian president inaugurated a dry dock in Persian Gulf shore, built by Iran Ship Building and Offshore Industries Complex CO. (ISOICO) on July 11.
Some $443 million have been spent for building of this project in Bandar Abbas port, Fars News Agency reported, naming the project "the biggest dry dock in Middle East".
The dry dock is a dock that can be drained of water to allow the inspection and repair of a ship's hull.
During the inauguration of the dry dock, Hormozgan Province's Governor Ebrahim Azizi said that this project is aimed at repairing LNG carriers and very large crude carriers (VLCC).
"ISOICO was able to repair 80,000-ton ships till now, but currently it can also repair the 400,0000-ton ships.
ISOICO is located in 37 kilometers west of Bandar-Abbas. It has been constructed with the purpose of designing, construction and repair of various types of vessels and offshore structures.
Iran's first domestically manufactured ocean-going tanker, manufactured at ISOICO yard, has begun its maiden voyage in the Persian Gulf waters on February 24.
