Azerbaijan, Baku, July 18 / Trend N. Umid /

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad left Tehran to visit Iraq to discuss issues of mutual interests, Fars news agency reported on July 18.

Ahmadinejad has already been invited to Iraq before Iraqi President Jalal Talabani's physical condition went into deterioration. But the travel has been postponed due to Talabani's bad physical condition for long time.

Ahmadinejad will meet with high-ranking Iraqi officials, including Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki, Vice President Khodair al-Khozaei and other high-profile officials during his two-day visit to Iraq.

The two sides will discuss ways for the further expansion of mutual cooperation in various fields.

Iran and Iraq were involved in a war which broke out in September 1980 and lasted for eight years. On July 20 is 26 anniversary of adoption of United Nations Security Council Resolution 598 that stops war between Iran and Iraq.
