Iran to set up forced labor camp for drug smuggling prisoners

Iran is currently constructing a forced labor camp in Tehran for drug-smuggling prisoners, Head of Iran's Prisons Organization said on Friday.

"In case of no fund shortage, the construction operation will be finished in four months, the IRNA News Agency quoted Gholamhosseini Esmaeili as saying.

"Iran has already inaugurated two such forced labor camps in Isfahan and Khorasan Razavi provinces," he added.

"Constructing three labor camps in Tehran, Kerman, and Sistan and Balouchestan provinces would cost 1.2 trillion rials ($37.5 million based on the USD price at the free market)," Esmaeili said.

"Some 700 billion rials ($21.87 million) of the mentioned amount have been allocated to the projects during the previous administration period," he said, adding the the mention amoun has not been paid to the contractor yet.
